Details Are Important.

Yes, it’s true, details are important, especially in some circumstances.

What do I mean by that? Keep reading.

There’s a new Sushi Restaurant in my neighbourhood. One of a few new small niche restaurants that have opened recently.

When you walk past this one, everything looks comfortable and inviting.

The large open front window shows off the cozy cubicle seating and well-appointed wall art. A large, easy to read Menu, is posted by the front door, inviting passers-by to stop and scan the restaurant’s offerings.

A full take-out Menu is also available depending on your needs.

Inside, an efficient looking Waiter can be seen bustling around the well-stocked bar carrying a few classic and innovative looking cocktails on his tray.

No detail seems to have been overlooked.

As I walked by and took in all of these details, I was impressed and intrigued. My family all like Sushi so I reached for my phone to make a note of the Restaurant’s name.

I was more impressed by the fact that the Restaurant’s website URL was printed boldly on their front window.

But then all of my good impressions were crushed.

The Website address listed didn’t work. Nothing came up when I entered it into my phone’s browser, and even after searching I came up blank.

How did this place expect to run a profitable business, in our current digital world, with an incorrect or worse yet a non-existent Website name?

This detail was paramount. It could be argued that this one small error could make or break this Restaurant’s success.

Later, after much searching, I found the Site address, but I doubted that many would go to the efforts that I did.

How many customers had they lost?

Good question.

Currently, (August 2018) according to Netcraft, there are over 1.7 billion Websites in the world. However, 75% of those Sites are dormant, leaving only 172 million active sites.

Don’t let your Website fall into the 75% dormant category and lose business that is rightfully yours.

Remember to check all of those details, because the details are important.

How do you manage to stay on top of all the many details that are important in your business? Let me know in the comments if you like.

  1. Hi Amanda,

I love your story telling…I imaged everything you laid out – even the web URL on the window! 🙂

That’s happened to me too and I even though I take the time to look for a website I also wonder how much traffic, leads and sales they’re missing out on and if anyone has bothered to check those details to make sure there are no glitches.

I have “web check” on my monthly to-do list that includes searching my blog/business on search engines to make sure there are no errors. It’s been a couple of months since I’ve done that – one of the many things I’ve put on the back burner lately but thank you for the reminder! 🙂

Thanks for sharing this with us! Hope you’re having a great week so far. 🙂

    • Thanks so much, Cori.
I, too, do regular checks on all of my sites (even from different locations via my VPN) to make sure that there aren’t any problems that have cropped up. Funny how we both think the same thing when we see someone with an URL problem. I guess you never get out of the business mindset, eh?
Have a great week too. 🙂

  2. Hi Amanda,
Certainly, details are gold in a way because they help you get what you want or direct you to the right destination. I kike your illustration of a restaurant’s website with no working URL. It is easy to lose your customers and prospectives who might want to get back to you via your website if yours isn’t working.

For example, just this gone week, lost about 20 articles from my site. Yes, 21 precisely including my most post that I published on Sunday. They just disappeared without my knowing it. Then Lisa Sicard sent me an email that she got a broken link notification from my site. I ran a check immediately and found 21 missing content. I went mad, contacted my web hosting provider, they ran a check and found nothing unusual.

Fast forward, I got my articles back, even though one is still missing. But the point is I lost traffic from those trying to access those broken link-links that are not working as a result of the missing content.

Thus, your article is timely for your readers as it will help put them on check
